I got my first real phone bill from T-mobile.
It should be £25 with 200 minutes talk and 200 text messages, with unlimited web and walk.
I’m a little peeved to see that I had to pay another £5, because one of the few calls I made was to an 0870 number and a couple of my texted went to a UK number which was abroad. Doh!
I have just insalled an app ‘0870′, which finds the 01 or 02 number of the 9870 or 0800 on the fly (over the www) on dials the 01 or 02 number which will be included on your price plan minutes.
I thought I’d check the unlimited web as there is no such thing as unlimited. As I thought there is a limit to the data, but without any data tracking on the phone, I don’t know how much I have sent or received.
More interesting was the fact that I’m not allowed to use the phone as a modem for a PC or better still Instant messaging, even though the T-Mobile G1 comes with google IM application pre-installed. Of course I can use it over wifi, but still.

I installed PicPush the other day.
The app uploads photos to your selected social photo site such as flickr.
I’m still getting to grips with it as it will upload all photos. This is a bit annoying as I don’t really want to upload blurry pictures (as the G1 camera is so slow, or the accidental shots of my pocket.

I’m not the most organised person in the world.
However, I’ve been using Astid to organise, well list the thing I need to do.
Now I spend more time writing down what needs to be done instead of doing any of them, but the though is there.
There have been a couple of useful reminders, such as, File my Tax Return, book ski holiday, etc.

As data transfer is mainly done via USB, there is always the danger of removing the cable before unmounting the card.
Microsoft XP does not warn you of this error anymore, maybe they have fixed hot plugin, however, if it isn’t done, there is a chance the camera stops working with the error mentioned above.
On Mac OS X, to fix this proble, you can go to Disk Utility. If you verify the volume, it will say that there is an error with the non HFS+ disk.
If you press the fix disk button, it will say that there isn’t anything to fix, but the camera will again be functional.
On Windows, people have fixed the problem by re-formatting.

The G1 comes with a limited storage space for apps, I forget what it is.
There are a lot of people requesting that the apps be put on the sd card.
Until that happens, I’ve been using Astro to backup any applications I like but rarely use onto the sd card and uninstalling the app from my phone.
It’s a bit of a juggle, but best of a bad situation.

With the ownership of the G1, I have almost made my old G4 iBook redundant.
There are only a few web pages which can’t be used or I’m a little dubious of, including banking and shopping sites. It’ll only be a matter of time before I’ll not worry about it, or these pages will render properly.
Luckily I didn’t get a netbook as the G1 does a good enough job.
There are of course stuff a proper computer does the G1 won’t do for a long time, but for quick internet stuff it is a good alternative to a netbook

Today I successfully ftped into my iBook without a router. I used internet connection sharing which let the G1 straight in.
As I was using wifi for the connection sharing, I lost the connection to the internet as it too used the wifi.
Unfortuately I was unable to reconnect to the internet as ICS wouldn’t shut down. Nothing a reboot can’t fix, but annoying that I have to reboot to resume normal play,

Although the android browser works fine with wordpress, I’m using wpToGo as there are somethings which are easier… if you are reading this post it is working fine too!

I phoned T-Mobile today to tell them my PAC number to transfer my old phone number.
With all the hoohar about transfering SIMs with Vodafone, I’m not holding my breathe that the number transfer will happen smoothly.
It was my first phone call to T-Mobile and on first impressions, the service seems quite normal. Quite polite anyway.
The operater said the change over is scheduled for the 4th and that I may lose a little bit of service as it happens.
Fingers crossed…

Today, I phoned Vodafone to tell them, Bye bye.
I requested my PAC number, but was disappointed they didn’t ask why I was leaving. Realsitically I had no choice as the the G1 is only on T-Mobile, but I wanted to rant and say the following:
- You stole my SE P800
- You said my SE P900 had a broken joystick (there isn’t a joystick) that is why I didn’t get top dollar for it.
- You sold me a £5.00 SIM I didn’t need.
- You couldn’t transfer my number to the SIM I didn’t need quoting, it would take 30 minutes, then when it didn’t happen, up to 12 hours and when that didn’t happen, up to 24 days.
- Giving out my details to some con artists who tried to steal my account details.
None of this was said, as she said, send a cancellation note in writing and we’ll send you your PAC code soon.
There was an automated phone call after a couple of minutes and I did leave a message of unhappiness that after 10 years of custom, they didn’t even ask why I was leaving.
